JOGO Biofeedback works on the science of ElectroMyoGraphy (EMG). The sensors pick up electrical signals generated by muscles and transmit the same via Bluetooth to a Tablet PC. The Tablet provides an audio-visual output which helps the user to understand how their muscle is performing in ‘Real Time’.
The awareness of how one’s muscle is working helps the person to learn to control it by the learning principle called OPERANT CONDITIONING. Simply put, operant conditioning means learning by TRIAL AND ERROR. We try to do something, we make mistakes, and we learn from those mistakes and avoid repeating the same mistakes. This leads us to the path of discovery, and eventually, we learn what is the right way! This applies to learning a new movement or re-learning a lost movement (following a stroke).
JOGO Biofeedback empowers individuals suffering from various neuromuscular disorders by aiding them in executing a range of muscle movements.
- Strengthen a muscle e.g. for poor hand function, poor swallowing
- Relax a muscle e.g. for overactive muscles, tension headache
- Graded control e.g. dystonia
- Coordination e.g. ataxia
JOGO detects and interprets the electrical signals produced by muscle activity but does not actively induce or influence any muscle movement. This way, the effort comes from the patient, so the learning and the effects last longer. The patient is no longer passive during the treatment and has to completely take charge of their body.
